In the heart of St. Peter, Minnesota, nestled near banks of the Minnesota River, lies a new local gem that has become a symbol of community, creativity, and camaraderie: Paddlefish Brewing Company. Founded by three friends – Dave, Eric and Luke – the brewery has become a cornerstone of the town, bringing people together through beer, music, art, and local partnerships.

The Origins of Paddlefish Brewing

Luke, one of the co-founders, attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. While in school, Luke continued his passion for brewing beer – a craft he had been exposed to throughout this upbringing. Erik, a close friend, was one of the lucky first tasters of Luke’s creations and jokingly suggested they should open a brewery together. What started as a lighthearted idea evolved into a vision that transformed St. Peter’s downtown with a brewery and taproom that has become a hub of community and creativity.

Paddlefish Brewing’s sense of community goes far beyond beer. Their taproom is designed to be a welcoming space for everyone – families, locals, and visitors alike. Dogs are welcome too, which only adds to the inviting, family-friendly atmosphere. They regularly host live music, food trucks, and games, creating an environment that draws people in for more than just a pint.

Giving Back to the Community

Paddlefish Brewing Ambeerlance BrewPaddlefish Brewing is deeply connected to St. Peter and consistently looks for ways to give back to the community. One of their most recent collaborations was with River’s Edge Hospital, which is working toward raising funds to purchase a new ambulance. In response, Paddlefish created a special beer called Ambeerlance, with 15% of sales going directly to the hospital to support the effort.

Dave shared, “I think it’s really important as a taproom, as a company, to both partner with organizations. In a lot of ways, it’s always a win-win both for them and us.”

This commitment to helping others has only strengthened Paddlefish Brewing’s reputation as a pillar in the St. Peter community. Whether it’s through fundraising efforts or simply creating a place where people can come together, Dave, Eric and Luke have made giving back a core part of their business.

A Local Bank, a Local Partnership

Paddlefish Brewing’s community focus is further reinforced by their close relationship with HomeTown Bank – literally and figuratively. Located just across the street, the bank is a natural partner for the brewery, making business transactions quick and easy, which enhances the sense of local community.

“We’re really happy with our connection with the bank. They just make everything easy. Walk in, do what you need to do, have a nice little conversation, and then move on with your day,” Dave said.

This proximity and ease of access exemplify the benefits of community banking. Having a strong financial partner nearby allows businesses like Paddlefish Brewing to focus on what they do best – serving their customers and contributing to the town’s vibrancy.

Supporting Local Artists and Creators

Paddlefish Brewing Mug ClubPaddlefish Brewing doesn’t just serve great beer; they are dedicated to supporting local artists as well. Their mug club offers members unique mugs made by a local sculptor, and their tasting flights are served on boards shaped as paddlefish crafted by another local artist. Even the cribbage boards available in the taproom are sourced from artisans in the area.

“I think one of the biggest things for Paddlefish Brewing to embrace here in St. Peter is community, family, and highlighting local artists – musicians, painters, sculptors, etc.,” said Dave. By collaborating with local creators, Paddlefish brewing reinforces the notion that the brewery is an integral part of the town’s cultural fabric.
